Back Pain Is Not a “Normal” Ailment

Back discomfort is sometimes dismissed as nothing more than a minor ailment that will go away on its own. It’s also typical to attribute it to “sleeping awkwardly,” call it a “spasm,” or say that “everyone” has it occasionally.

It happened for no apparent cause, but nothing seems to be altering.

We frequently hear stories like yours, so you’re not alone if it’s happening to you. In fact, one of the most frequent issues we treat in our clinic is lower back pain and sciatica.

And everyone we encounter is curious about how to deal with back discomfort…

“How Come This Is Happening to Me?” or, “Why Am I Still in Pain After Putting up With It for 3-6 Months? (Sometimes Longer!)”

Most people believe that if they have back pain, it will go away on its own.

They believe that if they wake up one morning, it would be as if the back ache never existed… But 6 months later, you’re still suffering from back pain, which is frequently worse than when it initially began.

Does It Describe You?

Another scenario we see all the time in our clinic is when people go to the Doctor, and the Doctor instructs them to relax and “try these painkillers” and “see how it goes”.

However, this is rarely the greatest advise, and many people end up coming back to the doctor after 4 weeks since things haven’t improved. Worse, they’re frequently given another prescription for harsher drugs and told to rest even more. This is absurd, and it explains why so many individuals in the United States suffer from persistent lower back discomfort.

Has Something Similar Happened to You?

What else could explain why back discomfort lasts longer than it should? It’s easy to become perplexed because you’ve been told so many different things by so many different people. There are plenty of individuals willing to offer advice, but much of it is rarely reliable.

Perhaps you believe your back pain is the result of something you did, such as lifting or sleeping incorrectly, but the truth is that back pain can be caused by a variety of factors.

Back pain may be very perplexing if you don’t know what you’re doing, and as a result, many people just accept it as ‘part of life’ – as if it’s normal and ‘just the way it is’. Do You Have the Same Thoughts?

If You Have Back Pain, Here Are 7 More Reasons Why It May Be Lasting Longer Than It Should:

1. You expected it to go away on its own, but it didn’t.

2. You went to the doctor, who advised you to relax and take pain relievers, but the drugs did little to heal your back, and as soon as they worn off, persistent back pain returned.

3. You just accepted it because a family member or acquaintance informed you that everyone suffers back pain as they get older.

4. You had previously tried various Healthcare Professionals or a Physical Therapist, but nothing they said or did appeared to help.

5. You tried YouTube workouts, but they either didn’t work or made your back discomfort worse.

6. You thought it would be a good idea to relax because your back pain was so awful, but it only made it feel stiffer and tighter.

7. You opted to get a couple “massages” in the hopes that they would relieve your discomfort, but all they did was make you feel comfortable and relaxed and did nothing to help you in the long run.

If any of these things have happened to you, we’d love to help you by encouraging you to schedule a call with our low back specialist to find out what we can do to help you. The fact that you’ve tried any or all of these things is actually a GOOD THING since knowing what doesn’t work brings you closer to discovering what does!

“What Can I Do Quickly to Stop My Back Pain?”

Here are 4 things you can try:

1. To begin, you will need to make a choice regarding whether or not to obtain assistance: So many individuals put off seeking treatment for their back pain for far too long, under the mistaken impression that it will “simply go away with time.” However, six months later, they are still suffering through it, and either nothing has changed or it has become worse.

2. Next, perform the CORRECT exercises: One of the best things you can do to help ease your back pain is to perform the correct series of progressed exercises – the correct exercises that have been prescribed to you by a Physical Therapist will help reduce pain, and allow you to move freely again quickly – and they will ensure that the problems do not return any time soon (or aggravate your back even more like some exercises do).

3. Avoid long periods of sitting and relaxing. Have you ever tried to get up from the couch after resting for a while, but it was difficult because your back felt so painful and tight? This is due to the fact that resting or sitting for extended periods of time is one of the worst things you can do that contributes to back discomfort. Your back becomes rigid and tense when you relax for long periods of time and sit in odd positions. Along with receiving hands-on treatment, receiving suitable strengthening exercises would be of great assistance in getting you back to being physically active and in good health as early as possible.

4. Get some actual, hands-on physical therapy: It’s been shown that physical therapy can benefit patients who suffer from low-back discomfort. In point of fact, it is one of the most prevalent injuries that we treat here at Peak Pursuit Performance and Rehab. Physical therapy can help you get back to living the life you deserve as quickly as possible if your back pain is preventing you from working, preventing you from being active, threatening your independence, or getting in the way of spending valuable time with family and friends.

Our Method

FIRST STEP: RELAY TO US YOUR HISTORY

In contrast to the experience you often have at the doctor’s office, we are interested in hearing about your life. The entirety of it. There are no easy outs. We are interested in learning more about your injury, as well as your interests and the impact that this has had on your life.

This is your opportunity to share everything and everything with us, and that includes the objectives and goals you have set for your health, regardless of how large or small they may be.

SECOND STEP: OBTAIN AN IMAGE OF THE BIG PICTURE

We will discuss the potential factors that led to your injury, as well as the anticipated length of time needed for recovery, in this section.

Throughout the course of therapy, we will work towards the end goal of providing you with the knowledge and tools necessary to understand how this injury came about in the first place, how to treat it right now, and how to avoid it from happening again in the future.

THIRD STEP: FIND A SOLUTION TO YOUR PAIN AND BUILD UP YOUR RESILIENCE
  1. Reduce the discomfort and other symptoms that you are currently experiencing.
  2. Determine what the underlying problem is and take steps to fix it.
  3. Strengthen your body and train it to be resilient so that anything like this won’t happen again in the future.
